With the advancement of technology, many places now use techniques for edible mushroom ,which involves placing the culture medium into sealed plastic bags, followed by sterilization, inoculation, and fungus growth, ultimately forming mushroom sticks that produce mushrooms.

Since the sealed mushroom bags do not allow gas exchange between the inside and outside, fresh air from the outside cannot enter to supply the mycelium's growth needs, and waste gas produced by the metabolism of mycelium inside cannot be expelled. Toxic substances accumulate inside the bag, and the heat produced by metabolism cannot be promptly discharged, leading to a harsh environment for fungus cultivation inside the bag. This results in hindered growth of the fungus strain, aging of the mycelium, and poor stress resistance.

To ensure normal growth of the edible mushroom strain and efficient production capacity, gas exchange between the inside and outside of the bag is necessary while also preventing bacterial contamination. Typically, breathable holes are made on the mushroom culture bags and breathable membranes are welded to allow free gas exchange between the inside and outside of the bag while blocking bacteria.

The micro-pore size of this breathable membrane needs to be controlled below 0.5μm to prevent bacterial invasion. Moreover, suitable breathable membranes can effectively suppress the respiration of edible mushrooms like bisporus mushrooms, delaying maturity and aging, and helping maintain their post-harvest quality. By improving the energy metabolism of post-harvest edible mushrooms and ensuring sufficient energy supply, their post-harvest aging is delayed. This indicates that breathable membranes not only promote mycelial growth during the cultivation stage but also play an important role in the post-harvest preservation stage.

XINNA's weldable ePTFE membrane
